• Ronn Schuttie (Class 19) retired on January
1 after 30 years with DNR. • Alex McGregor (Class 6)
and The McGregor Company recently celebrated its 125th year in business.
Hundreds came to Hooper, Washington, population 21, for the company
picnic. Alex’s family settled there in the 1880’s. They
raised sheep, grew wheat, and later went into the fertilizer business
which Alex runs today. • Marty Coleman (Class 14) is
the current General Manager for Hops Extract Corp. of America (A subsidiary
of S.S. Steiner, Inc.). • Greg Hamilton (Class 8) was
selected by the Okanogan Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year.
He was honored at a luncheon last May. • Craig Nelson
(Class 27) was appointed last May to fill a vacant position on the
Okanogan City Council.
• Doug Rushton (Class 18) was selected as Supervisor of the
Year for 2005 for the Thurston Conservation District. The District
was selected for the Southwest Washington District of the Year for
2005 and 2006. Doug is also Chair for the Washington State Society
of American Foresters for 2007.
• Butch Ogden (Class 24)
is now the Regional Manager for the Washington State Conservation
Commission in the Southwest Washington Office.
• Dennis Fiess (Class 9) has recently retired from WSU Western
Center for Risk Management.
• Bruce Beckett (Class 16) left Weyerhaeuser Company in November
after 30+ years in the forest products industry. He has taken a
new position in Governor Chris Gregoire’s administration.
• Richard Thomason (Class 7) is on the Governor’s Farmland
Preservation Committee.
• Sue Lani Madsen (Class 29) is a Republican Candidate for
State Representative in the 7th District.
• Heather Hansen (Class 17) was presented the Agricultural
Ambassador Award during a recent meeting with Oregonians for Food
and Shelter. She was honored for speaking out in support of agriculture.
Heather is Executive Director of Washington Friends of Farms and
Forests and WAWG’s lobbyist in Olympia.
• Walt Neff (Class 14) is the Event Chairman of the Pasco
Ag Show and Member of the Pasco Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Greg Ferrel (Class 27) was elected the Chair of the Western Pea
and Lentil Grower Association. He represents farmers in Washington,
Oregon, and Idaho.
• Jim Middleton (Class 27) testified on the Farm Bill in
Yakima for the Asparagus Commission, which he chairs.
• Mary Nouwens (Class 17) recently received a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Nursing from WSU. She is working as a Telemetry/Cardiac
Nurse in Yakima.
• Terese Rowe (Class 15) is moving to Chile in spring of
2007 as she continues to work with Rabo Bank International.
• Roger Knutzen (Class 1) received the 2007
Potato Man for All Seasons award at the National Potato Council’s
annual meeting in Marco Island, Florida. Washington Governor Chris
Gregoire appointed Roger to the state’s Economic Development
Commission for a three-year term, which began October 1, 2007.
• Kate Tate (Class 24) has accepted a new position
with Quadrant Homes as Director of Government Affairs, after being
with Weyerhaeuser for almost 16 years.
• Wade Troutman (Class 19) enjoyed eating bread
baked from his own organic wheat, baked by Great Harvest Bread.
Great Harvest also purchased Wade’s complete crop of Organic
Hard Red Spring Wheat.
• Ron Wesen (Class 22), Republican, is running
for District 1 County Commissioner.
• Scott Yates (Class 13) is leaving the Capital
Press after 21 years and will begin as director of communications
with the Washington Grain Alliance in April.
• Joe Murray (Class 18) is Chairman of the Board
of Supervisors for Clallam Conservation District. The District was
recently honored by the Washington Association of Conservation Districts
as the 2007 District of the Year for the state of Washington for
the first time in its 48-year history.
• Dick Boushey (Class 10) received the Washington
Association of Wine Grape Growers Industry Service Award.
